a) How is the Church our mother and teacher?
The Church received from the Apostles the mission given by Christ to announce the Good News and to guide us, when he said to them, “Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven” (Mt 18:18). All Christians, therefore, have the right to be taught by the Church the truths given by God, and the duty to study and follow them.
The five precepts of the Church guarantee the indispensable minimum in the spirit of prayer, the sacramental life, moral commitment, and growth in love of God and neighbor.
b) Why should an Altar Server study the Church’s teachings?
To serve the Church, an Altar Server must know the basic things that God, through the Church, wants of him.
He should also transmit these teachings of the Church to others through his words and deeds, and so bring them closer to God and others.
