My dear young friends, you carry out beside the priest, who alone acts in the name of Christ, a service which has the purpose of making the greatness of the Eucharistic Mystery even clearer….
You must endeavor to understand the liturgy, even more, you must bear witness to Christ and the Church in many ways. To do this and to learn this is the educational task of your groups, in which you dedicate yourselves to prayer and to the apostolate. ….
In this connection I would like to request urgently that priests and educators should devote all the necessary care and time to this preparation.

POPE BENEDICT XVI
At the center of every Christian community is the Eucharist, the source and summit of the life of the Church. Whoever places himself at the service of the Gospel, if he lives the Eucharist, makes progress in love of God and neighbor and thus contributes to building the Church as communion.
We can affirm that the “Eucharistic love” motivates and founds the vocational activity of the whole Church, because, as I wrote in the Encyclical Deus caritas est, vocations to the priesthood and to other ministries and services flourish within the people of God wherever there are those in whom Christ can be seen through his Word, in the sacraments and especially in the Eucharist.
This is so because “in the Church’s Liturgy, in her prayer, in the living community of believers, we experience the love of God, we perceive his presence and we thus learn to recognize that presence in our daily lives. He loved us first and he continues to do so; we too, then, can respond with love” (n. 17).

POPE FRANCIS
I would like to say this especially to you, the young. Do not be deaf to the Lord’s call. If he calls you to follow this path, do not pull your oars into the boat, but trust him. Do not yield to fear, which paralyzes us before the great heights to which the Lord points us.
Always remember that to those who leave their nets and boat behind, and follow him, the Lord promises the joy of a new life that can fill our hearts and enliven our journey.

I also hope that you are attentive to the call that Jesus may address to you to follow him more closely in the priesthood. I appeal to your consciences as young, enthusiastic and generous people…
May you, little by little, Sunday after Sunday, discover the beauty, the happiness and the necessity of such a vocation. What a wonderful life is that of the priest who, at the center of each day, encounters Jesus in such an exceptional way and gives him to the world!
