18. Responsibility

a) What is responsibility?

Responsibility is the ability to be trusted or depended on.

When we are responsible, other persons have confidence in us, knowing that we always keep our promises. Part of this virtue is the constant desire to improve and learn new things, so we can be ready to do things to the best of our abilities.

b) Why should Altar Servers live the virtue of responsibility?

God expects us not only to do our duties, but also to do them well. To be responsible means to accomplish tasks expected of us maturely, promptly, as well as we can, and without wasting time on distractions and other useless activities.

A responsible Altar Server can be trusted. Others will seek his advice and his help because they know that he is competent. They will imitate him in working harder and with order, without giving in to laziness or procrastination.
