a) What is spirit of sacrifice?
Spirit of sacrifice is a supernatural attitude in which we joyfully accept the little and great difficulties of everyday life. This includes both patience in times of suffering, and perseverance in doing good.
Spirit of sacrifice also means uniting ourselves to Christ, who died on the cross to do the Father’s will and show us the way to heaven. He knew that he would be rejected by many and had to suffer, but he was not discouraged. Loving sacrifice is our way of taking up our cross daily to follow him.
b) Why should Altar Servers live with a spirit of sacrifice?
We do everything for God, and he always helps us. We should try our best to overcome all difficulties in our work, study and relationship with others, but should not be discouraged if we do not succeed at once—rather, we should joyfully offer them up to God.
The Altar Server lives the spirit of sacrifice not only in times of great suffering, but more especially, in the little difficulties that he encounters each day. The latter come more frequently, and could be easier not to persevere in. They could take the form of a difficult lesson, keeping things orderly, doing the norms of piety (or prayers), waking up on time and immediately, helping parents or a friend, household chores, punctuality, etc.
