a) What is service?
Service is performing one’s religious duty as a creature towards God, and fulfilling one’s moral responsibility of helping others.
When we serve God, we make ourselves his instruments here on earth. Of course, he can do everything even without us, since he is allpowerful. But even then, he wants us to collaborate with him by serving others in their needs.
b) Why should Altar Servers live the virtue of service?
Man is a social being, and needs others to live a normal life. Service is a way of showing our love for our neighbors. We have different talents and capacities, hence we have different duties towards each other.
An Altar Server’s spiritual life does not end with his prayers and relationship with God. It should automatically lead him to be closer to his neighbors, serving them, especially the least of our brethren, as he would serve Christ himself.
