10. God the Holy Spirit.

a) Who is God the Holy Spirit?

God the Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Holy Trinity, who comes into our hearts and gives us life as God’s children. Through the gift of grace, the Holy Spirit enlightens our minds to know God by faith, and strengthens us to do God’s will.

The Holy Spirit builds, animates, and sanctifies the Church. We receive him and his inspirations through the Bible, the sacraments, and in our prayers. He also makes us aware of God’s will for us through other persons and in the ordinary events of our life.

b) Why should an Altar Server ask light from the Holy Spirit?

The light of the Holy Spirit teaches us how to become better persons, and do more good than we can by our own efforts alone. We can respond to his inspirations more easily if we strive to be aware of his presence in us and invoke his help to enlighten our minds and strengthen our wills.

Since the Holy Spirit is present in us, we should detest even the smallest of sins. Frequent and regular Confession not only removes our sins, but also strengthens us in our struggle to do good and avoid sin, temptations, and circumstances that could lead us to sin.
