a) What is the visit to the Blessed Sacrament?
It is a short visit to Jesus in the tabernacle of the church or of the school chapel. In the consecrated host, Jesus, who is true God and true man, is really present, with his body, blood, soul, and divinity.
Jesus is our God, our brother and our friend. He waits for us everyday in the tabernacle. When we visit him, we talk to him, we adore him, we ask pardon for our sins and for the sins of all men, we pray for our needs and for the needs of our family and friends, we pray for the souls in purgatory, so that they may be able to go to heaven as soon as possible, and we thank him for all the good things we receive from him.
b) How do we do the visit to the Blessed Sacrament?
Anytime during the day, we may enter the church or the school chapel to visit Jesus in the tabernacle. Aside from saying a fixed prayer, (See Appendix), we may also greet and pray for our intentions and those of others, even just for a few moments. We could also bring our friends along and encourage them to pray.
When he makes the visit, an Altar Server should also unite himself with the Blessed Virgin, St. Joseph and the angels (especially his guardian angel) and the saints. The Spiritual Communion (See Appendix) may be prayed many times during the day and at any place (at home, in school, on the field, etc.)—this way the Altar Server receives God’s many graces. Saying the Spiritual Communion frequently is an excellent preparation for Mass and Holy Communion.
