a) What is justice?
Justice is the virtue that disposes us to give to each one what belongs to him or her. This virtue safeguards the rights of others: their right to life and freedom, happiness and sanctity of the home, good name and honor, material possessions, and so on.
Justice toward God is called “the virtue of religion.” When we pray and offer sacrifices, we give God what is his: glory, honor, and praise.
b) Why should Altar Servers live the virtue of justice?
Justice allows us to relate with one another properly, by respecting others and what belongs to them (their things, honor, etc.). Our example will encourage them to do the same to others and to us.
The Golden Rule, which tells us to do unto others what we would like them to do unto us, and to love God and others, calls us to act even beyond what is strictly just. The Altar Server should respect and help others heroically, that is, more than what is commonly considered sufficient.
