52. The Sixth Commandment: Purity of Body.

a) What is the Sixth Commandment of God?

The Sixth Commandment of God is: You shall not commit adultery.

We should be pure and modest in our behavior and in our relationship with other persons. We should not put ourselves or others in impure or immodest situations, by having bad company, excessive drinking, immodest dressing, reading indecent books or magazines, watching indecent films or movies, etc.

b) Why should an Altar Server know and live the Sixth Commandment?

The virtue of purity is not a negative virtue consisting of mere prohibitions, but rather an affirmation of our love for God. We want to keep our body and our soul clean because we are faithful to our Lord, and have dedicated our whole life to him.

As a good gentleman and a sign of his love for others, an Altar Server is courteous and attentive towards them, respecting them in his thoughts, words, and actions.
