a) What is the Second Commandment of God?
The Second Commandment of God is: You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
We should not use the name of God, the Blessed Virgin, the saints, and the holy things uselessly or irreverently.
b) Why should an Altar Server know and live the Second Commandment?
The way we use God’s name reflects how much we love and respect him. We should therefore use it with great devotion and affection.
An Altar Server should be a good example for his friends and encourage them to respect God’s name as he does. He should also, in a very friendly but firm way, try to correct those who blaspheme or curse, since words used improperly manifest a lack of love towards God and others.
