a) What is loyalty?
Loyalty is the virtue that leads us to be constantly faithful to God and to the things of God. One should also be loyal to one’s superiors and friends.
Loyalty includes being faithful even in times of difficulty, and in little things, especially when we think that others do not see us and therefore could not know if we have been faithful or not.
b) Why should Altar Servers be loyal?
Loyalty is a way of showing our love towards God and others. It demands genuine friendship. When we really care for them, we try to please them in all good things and avoid unnecessarily upsetting them.
Living this virtue includes keeping our promises, not speaking ill of others, being truthful, defending someone (whether a friend or not) who is unjustly accused, giving a wise advice, pointing out dangers, making fraternal corrections in private, and so on.
