a) What is care in little things?
Care in little things means to value the seemingly insignificant activities and details of daily life, and to do them well. Our studies, household chores, relationship with others, relaxation or any seemingly monotonous task, if offered up to God, are converted into prayer.
We can exercise this virtue often during the day by fighting our laziness, doing what we have to do as soon as possible, serving others even though they do not ask for it, or by not answering back in a bad manner. These little struggles could often be harder than the bigger ones, since they come frequently and we can be caught more unaware.
b) Why should Altar Servers care for little things?
Care in little things trains the Altar Server to be responsible in greater things, both materially and spiritually. When we thank God for his little gifts, or ask for pardon for small faults, we will also be faithful in greater responsibilities, like going to Mass, receiving the Sacraments, helping others in class, etc.
Our Christian life is a constant struggle to live the virtues heroically. We move up an inclined plane, slowly but trying not to fall backwards. It is in these little things that we can improve everyday, with the grace of God and doing our part.
