2. Morning Offering.

a) What is the morning offering?

The Morning Offering is a short prayer through which we greet our Lord and thank him for the gift of a new day. In this first prayer of the day, we offer him all our actions and our life, unite ourselves with others in prayer, and ask pardon for our sins.

By rising up on time and getting out of bed immediately (this is also called the “heroic minute”), we conquer the first temptation of laziness. We set the pace for the whole day, a day of hard work and study, of meeting and helping our family and friends, of trying our best in all that we do, and offering them to God.

b) How do we do the morning offering?

As soon as we wake up, we immediately kneel on the floor and say the morning offering. We may follow a fixed prayer (see Appendix), or compose our own. We may kiss our scapular as we renew our consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Since it is our first prayer for the day, we should do it with much devotion. We convert all our activities into prayer by offering them to the Lord and by doing them as well as we can.

Every new day for an Altar Server is a gift from God—another opportunity for him to receive his many graces, and to serve him and help others.
