16. Study.

a) What does it mean to study?

To study is to learn many things little by little, in an orderly way. The knowledge we get from conversations and our own reasoning is minimal. We need to seriously study our lessons and do other readings to know more.

There are still many things we do not know. By being diligent with our studies, we get to know more things and better, and thus, become more capable of working and helping others. It will be easier for us to distinguish between true and false, between good and bad, and between right and wrong. This way we can come up with good decisions in life and become better persons.

b) How do we study well?

An Altar Server should strive to keep himself up to date with his lessons, reading the necessary books, and doing all the assignments responsibly. A good way to ensure that we really understand a topic is by explaining it to others. The Altar Server should be humble enough to ask for help from his teachers or classmates if he does not understand a certain lesson. Likewise, he should seriously study the teachings of the Church, at school, in the parish, and on his own.

For an Altar Server, it is not enough to pray or to be helpful to others. He should also prepare himself well to do more in the future, by knowing his lessons well and striving to do his best during exams. A good student pleases God and can serve others in many ways. A student who frequently turns to God converts his study into prayer, which he may offer for his intentions and those of others.
