a) What is holy purity?
Holy purity is the virtue that inclines us to keep our body and soul free from all forms of uncleanliness and lust.
Holy purity is not a negative virtue, by which we do not do indecent acts. Rather, it is our response to God’s infinite love: because we also love him, we give him our whole self clean and without stain.
b) Why should Altar Servers live the virtue of holy purity?
We live the virtue of holy purity by trying our best to be free from uncleanness, which takes the form of lustful thoughts and actions. For this, we ask God’s help to reject all temptations against holy purity immediately—for example, by not entertaining indecent thoughts, desires or conversations right from the start.
By living this virtue the Altar Server becomes stronger spiritually, serving God and others with an undivided heart, a heart free from all attachment to impurity. This leads him to respect himself and others, seeing in them God’s image at all times.
