a) What is humility?
Humility is the virtue by which we control our desire for personal greatness and love ourselves in the proper way, in relation with God and our neighbors.
With humility we walk in truth— that we are God’s creatures, that everything we have comes from him, and that he has also given many gifts and talents to others, different in kind and in degree from what he has given us.
b) Why should Altar Servers live the virtue of humility?
If we are not careful, we could easily become selfish and make ourselves important. It is true that we should love ourselves, but only in the proper way—without sacrificing our love for God and for others, and much less putting them down, hating them or not responding to their needs.
A good way of living humility is by being very thankful to God and to our neighbors. That way, we acknowledge that without them we could not do anything. Whenever we consider ourselves greater than others, or whenever we do something well, let us give all the glory to God and remember that we are merely his servants who try to do his will.
