11. Sincerity

a) What is sincerity?

Sincerity is the virtue that makes it easier for us to tell the truth (the whole truth and nothing but the truth) to those who have the right to know it.

Sometimes we are ashamed to tell the truth. However, we should always remember that God knows everything we do, and that Christ himself is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Only by loving the truth can we follow the Way and have Life everlasting.

b) Why should Altar Servers live the virtue of sincerity?

The only way to advance in our spiritual life is by being very sincere. We do not hide our strengths or weaknesses from ourselves or from others. Rather, we try to overcome our weaknesses and take advantage of our strengths to serve God better.

An Altar Server who is sincere is ready to accept the truth, even though it may hurt his pride or make life more difficult. This is because he knows that he cannot hide anything from God, and, more importantly, because he loves God and doesn’t want to offend him. People notice whether we are sincere or not. Through our example, we can help others live the virtue of sincerity.
